Council funding

Active Travel Fund

The Active Travel Fund supports local authorities with grant funding for the development and/or construction of inclusive walking, wheeling and cycling schemes. To date, four rounds of active travel funding have been distributed to authorities across England.

Capability fund

The active travel capability fund grants provide resources for local transport authorities to enable walking, wheeling and cycling in their communities. This is achieved by:

  • developing infrastructure plans and designs, public consultation and evidence collection
  • carrying out community engagement activities, such as schools programmes, training and promotion

Active travel social prescribing pilots

Active Travel England works in partnership with government departments and key organisations to provide funding and support to 11 local authorities to pilot active travel social prescribing activities.

A total of £13.9 million is being provided over three years to enable behaviour change and promote active travel for everyday journeys.
