What is Bikeability?
Bikeability is the government's flagship national cycle training programme for children in England. The programme provides practical cycling skills training at various levels, helping participants feel confident when using a cycle on England's roads.
Delivered by experienced cycle instructors, children who take part in Bikeability sessions are more likely to cycle regularly than children who do not undertake the training. Additional funding is provided to ensure sessions are accessible to people with additional needs.
In total, more than four and a half million children have received Bikeability cycle training since 2007.
Bikeability funding
Active Travel England provide funding to The Bikeability Trust to administer cycle training programmes across England (excluding Greater London, where Transport for London provide this funding).
The Bikeability Trust distributes this funding to councils and partners, who deliver training in local schools and communities.
