Join Dr Moira Nicolson, Lead Behavioural Scientist at the Cabinet Office, who will discuss psychological reactance -when people respond negatively to what they perceive as government or authority figures telling them what to do or how to live their lives.
Government actions can sometimes evoke strong emotional responses from the public, especially if people perceive government to be threatening their freedoms or pressuring them into taking on a particular point of view or attitude. Moira will talk through recent transport examples in this session and will introduce you to the behavioural science literature on psychological reactance and strategies you can take to mitigate its occurrence.
