Simon Lightwood MP, Minister for Local Transport, and National Active Travel Commissioner Chris Boardman CBE visited Stockport Interchange, a new transport hub bringing together bus, rail, walking and cycling routes.
The transformed hub features:
- 18 bus stands with capacity for 164 departures an hour
- New walking and cycling links to the railway station and the town centre
- A two-acre town centre park above the interchange with community green space
- An eye-catching spiral and walking ramp enabling step-free access to all levels
Through integrating public transport and active travel, people are enabled to choose walking, wheeling and cycling to connect to bus and train routes, creating greener and healthier communities.
