Nathan Phillips

Biography

Nathan Phillips CBE is Director of Strategy at the Department for Business and Trade (DBT). He is a member of the Department’s Executive Committee with a focus on coordinating Ministers’ strategic priorities, including on DBT’s core role in the Government’s growth mission.

Nathan is the Department for Transport’s (DfT) Independent Sponsor Director at Active Travel England, representing and bridging to the Department at the Board.

Nathan has previously held a number of roles across the Civil Service, including:

  • Director of Shareholdings and Director of Airports and Aviation Infrastructure (DfT)
  • Director of Business and Citizen readiness and Director of Planning and Analysis (Department for Exiting the European Union)
  • Executive Director on nuclear, rail, housing market interventions and postal services (UK Government Investments)

Before joining the Civil Service in 2011, Nathan spent the first 12 years of his career at PwC and KPMG as a corporate strategy consultant in the UK and overseas.
